[down_low] is a compilation of ScanOne’s more electronica-influenced tracks, looking (briefly) behind his usual punishing soundsystem assaults to reveal a more introspective, late-night studio headspace where screens flicker as sounds loop and loop for hours, slowly mutating and solidifying into what some call electronic music.

ScanOne remixes his own 8 Bit into a chunkier, grittier hip hop track with plodding beats and metallic resonance.

These cells, the deadly germs they multiply“… the voice sample goes.. ScanOne steers electronic hip hop into sinister, darker territory with a bittersweet melodic tinge riding atop a slow horror-show bassline…

Sinister vocal cut-ups and fizzy, crackling glitches ride atop a huge prowling bassline… Disembodied voices, flickering CCTV screens, ScanOne’s dark cinematic perspective shows itself clearly in this track’s construction. Close your eyes, if you dare.

A cavernous, deep and warmly resonant hip-hop track, melodic elements harmonise while a muffled kickdrum rolls along, suggesting an immense energy beneath the calm surface.

A storming, sinister hip-hop track, with enough energy to rock a peak-time dancefloor even at about 100 bpm… ScanOne’s Tik Tok was originally released as a 12” on London’s Blasé Records, and was rapidly coveted by those in the know… The track is now available in digital format, for laptop DJs and those that missed out the first time round.
