Cybank are Combat’s stateside radio crew, consisting of Martial Flaw and Moniker. Championing fresh, forward-thinking electronic music with a slew of records from before their time, this duo has long amazed us with their extremely quirky mixing style, a “whole sort of general mish-mash” of sound that gleefully smashes through just about every existing genre and quite a few that haven’t yet been invented.
Frenetic breakcore snares rain down at double-time upon subversive hip hop, while Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder get thrown on a glitchy bed of abstract beats. Consistently varied, you never know what’s coming up next in a Cybank set, though you can always spot their fanatic attention to chaotic beats of varying tempos and obtuse hip hop flows that leave the listener lost in a state of unease.
Between the two they have held down a number of residencies in the Central and South Florida art & bar scenes, including multiple efforts to maintain a local experimental film & music weekly and even a late-night pirate radio show, dubbed “the Scifibank”, that broadcasted out of a haunted apartment above an office complex in Downtown Orlando. This show did not cater to average radio listener, and with players such as Machine Drum and Aura (Schematic) dropping in, it created quite a stir before it was put to an end. Gig highlights include sets alongside headliners such as the Orb, Phoenecia, o9, Otto von Schirach, Machine Drum, and several bursts of sonic terrorism at random events during Miami’s Miami Winter Music Conference.
